Job Description: Maintenance Custodian
Position Reports to: Business Manager
Primary Responsibilities: Provides custodial, janitorial and maintenance services necessary to maintain order, cleanliness, safety and security of church facilities including parish house and for ensuring that the physical needs for use of rooms are met as scheduled. Qualifications: The custodian will be detail–oriented and have good people skills and be well organized. The custodian must be able to function independently and to use judgment in changing circumstances. Skills in maintenance procedures, electrical and plumbing maintenance desirable. Capacity for sustained physical activity necessary including lifting 50 pounds. Custodial or maintenance experience preferred. Responsibilities: Ministerial: 1. The custodian will have frequent contact with members of the parish community, and must be welcoming and helpful. 2. The custodian will provide support to all members of the parish staff, responding as able to appropriate requests for help. 3. The custodian will be aware of the confidential nature of the information which passes through the parish and will handle such confidences with sensitivity and skill. 4. The custodian will need to coordinate and work with volunteers. Custodial: 1. The custodian will actively see to the cleanliness and cleaning of the church building. (Cleaning service will clean once a week.) Some minor maintenance projects will also be required such as painting, minor repairs, changing lights, etc., as assigned. Attention to detail is most important. 2. The custodian will be responsible for snow removal (sidewalks) during the winter season and grounds maintenance (with a landscaping service). 3. The custodian will be responsible for setting up rooms for various meetings. (guidelines need to be set-custodian can not be available to set up all meetings) 4. May purchase or requisition cleaning supplies and maintenance items. 5. The custodian will be familiar with emergency procedures for the building, be aware of persons to contact if given problems arise, and will help with any emergencies in the custodian’s skill level and area of expertise. 6. Any overtime work (over 40 hours per week) must be authorized in advance by the business manager and will be compensated at time and one-half. The custodian must be able to handle a certain amount of flexibility in scheduling.
